August 6 — Unknown gunmen shot and killed former village deputy Riyah Aer-wa at his private home in Moo 5, Baleo Subdistrict, Sai Buri District, Pattani, in an incident that occurred last evening. The residence is located near the Paen Subdistrict boundary in Sai Buri District. The motive for the shooting remains under investigation as police gather evidence at the scene and pursue leads to identify and arrest the perpetrators.

Chachoengsao — After a six-hour search operation, rescue workers recovered the body of 29-year-old Thana (a pseudonym) who drowned in the Bangpakong River at a depth of 9 meters. His wife wept as she said her final goodbye, telling him they were finally going home together.

On August 6, Deputy Inspector Chonmanaj Riyapa from Muang Chachoengsao Police Station, accompanied by a forensic pathologist from Buddhasothorn Hospital, examined the area beneath the Baramee Sothorn Bridge. Rescue units had been searching continuously since around 11:30 a.m., using three motorboats equipped with sonar, drone teams surveying the water surface and riverbanks, and divers searching the incident area despite strong currents that made the operation extremely difficult.

Sonar eventually detected a suspicious object about 30 meters downstream from the bridge. Two divers descended to a depth of 9 meters and confirmed it was the missing person's body. Officers tied a rope around the deceased's ankle and pulled the body from the riverbed, placing it in a body bag before bringing it to shore for investigation and autopsy.

The victim's relatives revealed that Thana had recently moved from Songkhla Province to stay with his wife in Nakhon Nayok for three months. Three days earlier he had ridden his motorcycle to Chonburi to visit them and seemed cheerful, only mentioning homesickness and wanting to return to Songkhla. His relatives promised to arrange transport home.

This morning, however, he rode out from their house, leaving laundry in the washing machine and all his belongings behind. His wife, who had traveled from Nakhon Nayok, said he often expressed wanting to return home but she did not know why he made this decision, as he was normally a cheerful person.

When rescue workers placed the body in the rescue truck, his wife asked to open the tailgate and tearfully said her goodbye: "We're going home now. I'll make merit for you." A rescue volunteer named Siripong Sonchalerm, whose actions were captured on video, attempted CPR and explained that when he arrived at the scene, he tried to talk the man down while waiting for support, but the man did not respond and remained silent. When the man climbed over the concrete railing toward the steel railing, the volunteer tried to grab him and managed to hold his hand, but the man wrenched free and jumped into the river, leaving the volunteer deeply regretful.

The body has been temporarily placed at Buddhasothorn Hospital awaiting the victim's parents, who are traveling from Songkhla Province. Rescue units will then transport the body back to Songkhla for funeral rites.

Udon Thani — District Chief Tawat Promsopha of Wang Sam Mor, Udon Thani province, ordered a coordinated raid led by Sarocha Thanomphakdi, subdistrict headwoman, and Anawit Laddleo, subdistrict security officer, along with special operation units, volunteer territorial defense members, and village safety officers. The operation targeted drug trafficking in Wang Sam Mor subdistrict as part of the "Operation 90 Days" drug eradication campaign under the concept of "Heal suffering, promote happiness, protect public peace, and eliminate narcotics and bandits."

Following complaints from residents about severe drug proliferation, authorities learned that two suspects were supplying methamphetamine to a man named Tam, who consumed six tablets and assaulted his biological mother on July 29, 2026. The incident was documented and led to today's arrests.

In a search of a house in Non Satheaw village, Wang Sam Mor subdistrict, officers arrested two suspects identified as Mr. A and Mr. B. Mr. A was found with 612 red methamphetamine tablets stamped "WY" and tested positive for drug use. Mr. B was found with 4 red methamphetamine tablets stamped "WY" and also tested positive. Both suspects were taken into custody with all evidence seized and brought to Wang Sam Mor Police Station for further legal proceedings.

Thailand's youth national fencing team, including athletes Supakorn Chainakaentr (Niew), Worgkorn Noppornpornhom (Ang Pao), Chayut Podthong (Nai), and Thrit Champang (Puen), competed in the Asian Cadet Cup Taipei 2026 from July 31 to August 2 in Taipei. Worgkorn Noppornpornhom won gold in the individual final, defeating the tournament's top-seeded host athlete 15-9. Police units led by senior officers raided a rental house in Tambon Tai Ban Mai, Muang district, Samut Prakan province, and arrested 60-year-old Somkhit following an arrest warrant No. 1011/2569 issued by Bangkok South Criminal Court on August 3. He faces charges of abducting a minor aged 15-18 from parental care without justification for sexual abuse, and rape through threats and coercion.

Minister Suchat Chomklin has thrown his support behind the tracking team pursuing the tiger responsible for killing a ranger at Huai Kha Khaeng Wildlife Sanctuary, ordering agencies to implement maximum safety measures for staff working in the area. The sanctuary has temporarily closed tourism and nature study activities to protect visitors and allow efficient management operations. Department director Arthapol Jarinchansa assigned the Regional Conservation Office 12 (Nakhon Sawan) and the Wildlife Conservation Division to brief the public on the August 5 incident.

Officials identified the attacker as a young male tiger approximately 1 year 6 months old belonging to the family of "Mother Tiger Aphinyaa," which inhabits a 40-square-kilometer territory. Using 30 years of camera trap data, researchers confirmed the tiger's unique stripe pattern with certainty. Behavioural analysis suggests the attack was a natural accident: the young tiger, still learning to hunt, mistook the prone ranger for natural prey when it appeared to be sleeping on the ground.

Unlike typical man-eating tigers, this animal has not repeatedly attacked humans or selected them as primary prey. The tiger family continues to hunt normally within its established territory and has not fled or threatened nearby communities. Management plans include installing automatic cameras to monitor the tiger's behaviour closely. If it hunts successfully and behaves normally, it will remain in the ecosystem with tracking devices for long-term study. However, if it shows signs of repeated attacks on staff, capture and rehabilitation procedures will be initiated.
