A gas cylinder exploded at a two-storey commercial building in Om Noi subdistrict, Krathumban district, Samut Sakhon province, on August 21 at 4:30 p.m., injuring a male glassblower. The Creative Economy Agency (CEA), Ubon Ratchathani Municipality and Ubon Ratchathani University have officially opened the Thailand Creative & Design Center (TCDC) Ubon Ratchathani, a new creative hub aimed at connecting local culture, creativity and business to create new opportunities for the northeastern city.

The centre opened on 15 August under the theme "Together, shaping and building the city", welcoming residents, creative professionals, entrepreneurs, students and visitors to learn, experiment and develop new ideas.

The CEA said the centre is part of its effort to expand creative infrastructure into the regions and turn local cultural assets into products, services and experiences that can generate economic value. "Ubon Ratchathani's strengths are not limited to its traditions and tourist attractions, but also include its people, local knowledge, food, handicrafts and stories," said Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul, an expert member of the CEA board.

A key initiative is "Festival Lab," which brings together event organisers, designers, entrepreneurs, artists, communities and young people to experiment with new ideas for festivals and tourism. On August 21 at Bang Rak Police Station, senior officers from Metropolitan Police Division 6 and Bang Rak Station, coordinating with MPB SWAT teams, arrested a 46-year-old man named Suphon at a residence on Praya Damrong Lane in Bangkok's Maha Phruttharam subdistrict, Bang Rak District on August 20 at approximately 9 p.m. Officers recovered eight firearms including a 12-gauge shotgun shell, a .22 LR round, a homemade Thai revolver measuring 10.5 inches, a Colt 1911 pistol, revolvers of various barrel sizes (3.5 inches, 2.5 inches, 7.5 inches, and 6.5 inches), and ammunition weighing approximately 157.24 grams total.

Deputy Commissioner Chaikrit Potha explained that the operation was in line with government policy and orders from the National Police Office and Bangkok Metropolitan Police Command to crack down on illegal firearms and violence. After the Bang Rak Police radio center received reports of gunshots near a residence on Praya Damrong Lane, officers conducted a search with the suspect's cooperation. Upon questioning, Suphon admitted that some firearms were homemade and others were given to him by friends.

Police charged him with illegal possession of firearms without permission from the registrar and illegal possession of ammunition without permission. He was taken to Bang Rak Police Station for booking and transferred to investigators for legal proceedings. Additionally, officers from Pathumwan and Yan Nawa stations recovered two more firearms, bringing the total number of weapons seized in the division to ten.
