Gas Cylinder Explodes During Glassblowing Work, Man Injured
A gas cylinder exploded at a glassblowing workshop in Samut Sakhon province on August 21, injuring a male worker who was rushed to hospital with body pain.
A gas cylinder exploded at a two-storey commercial building in Om Noi subdistrict, Krathumban district, Samut Sakhon province, on August 21 at 4:30 p.m., injuring a male glassblower. Police Inspector Saengpet Wilaikul from Krathumban Police Station led the investigation, supported by emergency teams from Mahachai Hospital 2, the Ruam Katanyu Foundation volunteer rescue unit, and Om Noi Municipality firefighters.
The injured man was rushed to hospital by responders. The blast caused extensive damage inside and outside the two-storey building: the metal roller shutter at the front was blown apart across the street, and interior walls showed cracks. Glass tubes used for decorative glassblowing work lay shattered, and two gas cylinders—an air tank and a household cooking gas bottle—were found overturned inside.
The injured man's girlfriend, who had only been renting the space for about two months, said she had her back turned when the explosion occurred and did not see how it happened. She believes the blast may have been caused by a spark while adjusting the gas pressure. After hearing the loud boom and being startled, both ran upstairs to the second floor. However, as the man began experiencing increasing pain throughout his body, they came back down to seek medical help.
