Firework Sparks Ignite Gas Balloons, Injuring Several at Lamphun Festival
Fireworks sparked gas balloons during a festival display in Lamphun, injuring several people near Tha Nang Gate on the third night of the event.
LAMPHUN — Several people were injured after sparks from fireworks landed on gas-filled balloons, causing an explosion near Tha Nang Gate in Lamphun.
The incident occurred at around 20:00 during the third night of a fireworks event at Tha Nang Gate, according to the Ha Lamphun Facebook page.
Witnesses reported that sparks from fireworks fell onto a gas-filled balloon, triggering an explosion and causing injuries among people in the area. The incident caused panic among those attending the event, while officials rushed to assist the injured and take them to hospital.
The organizer of Vijit Lamphun said they had taken responsibility for the incident and was providing care for those injured. The organizer also said safety measures would be strictly implemented for upcoming fireworks displays scheduled for 2–4 October.
Authorities have warned members of the public to avoid bringing flammable materials or gas-filled balloons near fireworks display areas, noting that even small sparks can pose a danger to people and property.
Further fireworks displays are scheduled as part of Vijit Thailand at Lamphun, organized by the Ministry of Tourism and Sports and the Tourism Authority of Thailand. The displays will be held once each day at 20:00 on 2, 3 and 4 October 2026.
