Police Stop Google Street View Car by Mistake
Police in Chaiyaphum Province mistakenly stopped a Google Street View car on September 17, thinking it was suspicious before confirming it belonged to Google Maps and allowing it to continue.
On September 18, the incident sparked significant buzz on social media after a Google Street View car caught the attention of police officers and was pulled over for inspection. The Chaiyaphum Police page posted an image with the caption: "Khon Sawan patrol checks suspicious vehicle? It turns out to be a Google Maps car. Routine occurrence." Officers from Khon Sawan Police Station in Chaiyaphum Province stopped the vehicle on September 17 at 2:50 p.m. After questioning the driver, they confirmed the car belonged to Google Maps and cleared it to proceed.
Google Street View vehicles are equipped with panoramic 360-degree camera systems mounted on the roof. These cars drive through streets and locations worldwide to capture images for Google Maps, allowing users to view routes and environments as if they were there in person.
