Heavy Rain Expected to Drench Bangkok This Afternoon
A strong low-pressure system moving from southern Vietnam will bring heavy rain to Bangkok and surrounding areas this afternoon, with thunderstorms expected to affect 80 percent of the region and warnings issued for potential flash flooding
The Thai Meteorological Department issued a weather forecast for the next 24 hours on September 23, 2025, predicting heavy to very heavy rain in the eastern region, and heavy rainfall in parts of the lower northeastern region, lower central region, Bangkok and its vicinity, and the southern region. Residents are warned of dangers from heavy and accumulated rainfall that could cause flash flooding, flash floods, and landslides, especially in foothill areas near waterways and low-lying zones. Travel through areas prone to repeated flooding should be avoided, particularly in depression areas where water may accumulate quickly.
The forecast is attributed to a strong low-pressure cell developing off southern Vietnam that will move into Cambodia along a monsoon trough crossing the central and eastern regions, combined with moderate southwest monsoon winds covering the Andaman Sea, southern Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand. A high-pressure system and cold air mass over the upper northern and upper northeastern regions are weakening.
For Bangkok and surrounding areas, thunderstorms are expected to affect 80 percent of the area with heavy rain in some locations. Minimum temperature will be 25-26 degrees Celsius, maximum 33-35 degrees Celsius, with variable winds of 10-20 kilometers per hour.
At 1:00 p.m., the meteorological department reported moderate to heavy rain bands over Nonthaburi, Samut Sakhon, Samut Prakan, and several Bangkok districts including Thaling Chan, Phra Nakhon, and Thung Khru, moving southwest to cover Bangkok and surrounding provinces. Between 1:30 and 2:00 p.m., rain bands were observed over Nakhon Pathom, Nonthaburi, Samut Sakhon, Samut Prakan, and the same Bangkok districts.
