Highway Police Arrest Major Drug Suspect at Lampang Checkpoint
Highway police in Lampang arrested a major drug suspect after stopping a speeding white Toyota with a Songkhla license plate at a checkpoint. The man, identified only as Kamol, 51, was wanted for alleged involvement in a 142,000‑methamphetamine pill conspiracy and a money‑laundering case, and was believed to be preparing to flee across the border. He confessed and will be transferred to Gabang Police Station in Yala for prosecution.
According to police, the operation began when the Lampang highway police set up a checkpoint to curb crime and enforce traffic discipline. They stopped a speeding white Toyota from Songkhla Province and noticed the passenger, Kamol, acting nervously. After requesting permission to search the vehicle and checking his record through the national police information system, they discovered an outstanding warrant for his arrest in a major methamphetamine case involving 142,000 pills and money laundering. Investigation showed he had been on the run, traveling from southern Thailand toward the north to find a crossing point into a neighboring country, but was intercepted before he could escape. Kamol confessed to the charges and has been handed over to the Gabang Police Station in Yala Province to face legal proceedings.
