Hit-and-Run Driver Flees Scene, Police Discover Massive Drug Cache Worth 50 Million Baht in Vehicle Search
A hit-and-run driver abandoned a red Toyota Yaris in Prachuap Khiri Khan after rear-ending another vehicle, leading police to discover over 1 million methamphetamine tablets worth 50 million baht hidden in the trunk.
On May 24, 2569, Col. Phaithun Promkhiao, commander of Mueang Prachuap Khiri Khan Police Station, along with deputies and investigation officers, seized approximately 1,060,000 methamphetamine tablets worth over 50 million baht and a red Toyota Yaris with license plate 5กฒ 3471 Bangkok.
The incident began around 1:10 AM when Mueang Prachuap Khiri Khan Police received a report of a vehicle collision on Phet Kasem Road south section, near Thai Nam Thip Company's Prachuap branch, approximately 50 meters from Village 4, Tambon Ao Noi, Mueang Prachuap Khiri Khan District. Officers found a bronze-silver sedan with license plate กน 4744 Prachuap Khiri Khan had been struck from behind and damaged.
The driver of the struck vehicle, identified as Mr. A (alias), reported that his car was hit near a factory, but the Toyota Yaris driver accelerated and fled. He followed the vehicle to the scene. The Yaris driver, approximately 30 years old, slim build, about 165 cm tall, attempted to negotiate without involving police and offered compensation before seizing an opportunity during the confusion to escape into the nearby scrubland and disappear into the darkness.
During the vehicle search, officers discovered 160 bundles of methamphetamine totaling approximately 1,060,000 tablets packed in seven black plastic bags hidden in the trunk. The drugs and vehicle were seized as evidence. Police reported the findings to Maj. Gen. Athon Chintong, Prachuap Khiri Khan Provincial Police Commander, who ordered accelerated pursuit of the suspect and accomplices for legal proceedings.
