A devoted mother named Jessica has found a way for her 11-year-old son Hunter, who is autistic and unable to speak, to always have a means of communicating with her—by having a keyboard tattooed on her own arm. The idea has given her family a reliable backup communication method and has inspired the creation of keyboard-print shirts and free tattoos for parents of other autistic children.

The concept began when Jessica took Hunter out to eat and his augmentative and alternative communication tablet, which helps him select words and symbols to communicate, suddenly lost battery power. While Jessica worried, Hunter remained calm. He grabbed a napkin, drew a keyboard on it, and pointed to letters to order his food. This moment inspired Jessica with an immediate idea.

"That event made me realize I couldn't limit his communication to technology alone, because technology can fail," Jessica told Canada's CTV News.

She then devised a backup solution that would never run out of battery: a keyboard permanently attached to her own body. Jessica worked with a tattoo artist to ink a keyboard on her forearm, designed with letters, symbols, happy and sad faces, and an "I love you" button.

When Jessica revealed the tattoo to her son, the first word he typed on his mother's arm was "Mama." Since then, communication between mother and son has become significantly easier. Whenever they are together, Hunter can tap letters on his mother's arm to immediately convey his thoughts.

The tattoo offers another important advantage: privacy. Unlike Hunter's communication device, which produces sound when he selects words, the tattoo on Jessica's arm allows mother and son to communicate silently.

On July 8, Jessica posted a video on Facebook showing her son using her arm to communicate through the tattoo. The clip went viral, receiving over 2 million likes on social media and inspiring other families with non-speaking members.

"When we remove communication barriers, we're giving people who cannot speak the chance to show us who they really are," Jessica told a Canadian news agency.

The idea has spread far beyond one mother's arm tattoo. Remarkably, Hunter's schoolmates also wanted keyboard-print shirts. Jessica explained that the children wanted these shirts "so they could talk to Hunter on the playground and whisper secrets to him."

Jessica partnered with a clothing company to produce shirts with a keyboard printed on the sleeves. She has revealed that parents, nurses, doctors, and emergency responders from around the world have contacted her seeking ways to help autistic children in schools and hospitals.

Anutin emphasized that foreign business investors have strong confidence in Thailand's stability and potential, ranking it as their top investment destination. He credited the Board of Investment's Thailand Fast Pass policy—which serves as a centralized problem-solving hub for investors—as a major factor in attracting foreign capital, with first-half investment reaching 60,000 million Australian dollars, or approximately 1.4 quadrillion baht.

When asked about discussing matters with Australia's Prime Minister in Canberra on August 9, Anutin revealed that the Australian embassy has indicated strong demand for jet fuel, while Thailand has a surplus supply due to high diesel production volumes. He confirmed the Thai government is prepared to consider deregulating aircraft fuel exports if Australia expresses interest, which would also boost Thailand's export revenue. Regarding labor, Anutin confirmed plans to negotiate expanding work visa programs for Thai workers, particularly chefs. After visiting Thai Town and observing growing Thai restaurants facing chef shortages, he noted the government will work to resolve obstacles and assure Australia that Thai workers now come through legal channels rather than illegal means, bringing genuine skills and expertise.

Chiang Mai is moving forward with a tree-planting initiative to restore the community forest at Ban Pang Khi Lek in Mae Wang District, aiming to revive the forest area damaged by wildfires and develop it into a community carbon credit source. On August 18, 2026, at the Ban Pang Khi Lek community forest area in Thung Pi Subdistrict, Mae Wang District, Chiang Mai Province, Sivakorn Buapong, Deputy Governor of Chiang Mai, presided over the opening ceremony of a "forest planting activity to restore forest areas affected by wildfires under the fiscal year 2026 program to address wildfire, haze, and fine particulate dust problems."

The event was attended by the Mae Wang District Officer, heads of government agencies, representatives from the Chiang Mai Natural Resources and Environment Office, the Chiang Mai Forest Resource Management Bureau Region 1, the Conservation Area Management Office Region 16, the Chiang Mai Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Office, the Thung Pi Subdistrict Administrative Organization, as well as community leaders and local residents.

The Deputy Governor noted that Chiang Mai has continuously faced problems with wildfires, haze, and PM2.5 fine particulate dust. To address this, Chiang Mai Province launched the wildfire, haze, and fine dust mitigation support program to accelerate restoration of damaged forest areas.

The activity involved planting a total of 1,000 trees. The Ban Pang Khi Lek community forest area is a key target for developing community forests as a carbon credit source, promoting forest conservation and restoration while enhancing the capacity to absorb and sequester greenhouse gases, creating long-term sustainable benefits and income for the community.

On August 18, Somchai Morkatsrivun, director of the Department of Employment, revealed that approximately 80 job seekers reported being defrauded by a company offering overseas employment counseling, training, and skills testing. The company falsely promised to place workers in fruit-picking, packaging, and food-processing roles in Canada and Finland under two-year contracts with salaries of up to 70,000 baht monthly. Each victim paid processing fees of 65,000–85,000 baht, but the placements never materialized, resulting in estimated total losses of 20 million baht.

The Department of Employment is coordinating with the Anti-Human Trafficking Division to investigate the case and support victims. Officials will pursue legal action against those responsible for the fraud. Somchai emphasized the department's commitment to investigating thoroughly and assisting victims fully while taking legal action against all involved parties to prevent further deception.

Somchai warned that scammers use various methods to appear credible, including advertising high-paying positions, posing as legitimate companies, and collecting fees in advance. He urged the public to verify job placement companies through the Department of Employment's central registry at doe.go.th/ipd before transferring any money. He also encouraged prospective overseas workers to use only five legal methods: licensed employment agencies, the Department of Employment, independent travel, Thai employers sending workers, or Thai employers sending workers for training.
