House Fire Destroys Unit While Owner Away At Doctor
A house fire in Bangkok's Thonburi district destroyed one shop unit while the owner was at a doctor's appointment; her paralyzed brother escaped safely after noticing sparks from an electrical outlet before flames spread rapidly.
On July 7, 2025, Bukkhalow Police Station received a report of a fire in a residential unit along Soi Charoen Nakorn 63 (Soi Wat Bukkhalow) on Charoen Nakorn Road in Thonburi district, Bangkok. Firefighters and rescue teams from Talat Phlu Station, along with volunteers from Po Teg Tung Foundation and civil defense units, responded to extinguish the blaze at the multi-unit commercial building.
Officers found flames and heavy smoke billowing from the ground floor of the building before the fire spread rapidly throughout the space. Firefighters deployed water hoses and brought the fire under control in approximately 20 minutes.
According to investigation, house owner Ms. Duangjai Riyawong, 65, had gone to see a doctor when neighbors called to alert her that her home was on fire. She arrived to find the fire already raging.
Ms. Riyawong explained that her brother, who suffers from cerebral vascular disease causing paralysis, was present during the incident. Despite his condition, he was able to help himself and escaped the building in time without any injuries.
Her brother reported that before the fire spread, he noticed sparks flying from an electrical outlet on the ground floor of the house. However, it remains unclear which specific outlet caused the fire.
Police have not yet determined the cause of the fire. They will coordinate with forensic experts and relevant agencies to conduct a thorough investigation. The fire scene has been cordoned off for safety, and unauthorized persons are prohibited from entering the building.
Initial damage assessment shows one unit severely damaged, with all contents destroyed inside the house. The total value of damages is still being evaluated by officials.
