Illegal Wasp Nest Burning Triggers Attack on Chiang Rai Community
An illegal attempt to burn a wasp nest in a Chiang Rai residential compound triggered a swarm that attacked homes and killed a dog, prompting residents to demand those responsible accept liability or face legal action.
Chiang Rai – September 24, 2025. A group of people illegally entered the area around a civil service residential compound in Doi Tong, near the entrance to a ranger station in Wiang subdistrict, Muang Chiang Rai district, at approximately 11 p.m. on September 23 to collect a wasp nest. The attempt to burn the nest caused it to rupture, sending a swarm of wasps into surrounding homes and causing significant distress and fear among residents. A dog in the area was killed after being attacked by the swarm. The community is calling on those responsible to come forward and accept liability for the incident. If no one takes responsibility, the community stated it will pursue legal action to the fullest extent. The incident has disrupted residents' safety and endangered both people and pets in the surrounding area.
