Sirimet Liapakon, CEO and managing director of IRPC PLC, joined PTT Group in handing over flood relief supplies through the Energy Ministry. Present to receive the aid were Energy Minister Ekkanat Promphan, Permanent Secretary Chantanun Wongketjor, and Srawut Kaewtatip, Director-General of the Energy Business Department. Amid widespread flooding in Bangkok, the surrounding area, and various provinces, IRPC provided fuel through the ministry to support relief efforts and, alongside PTT, donated IRPC drinking water and survival kits to ease public hardship. In Rayong, where IRPC’s industrial complex is located, the company evacuated affected staff to safe locations, established shelters for workers and residents, prepared sandbags to block floodwaters, removed debris from drainage gates to improve water flow, and supplied clean water, IRPC drinking water, and relief packages to those impacted. These actions demonstrate IRPC’s commitment to stakeholders and surrounding communities, coordinating with various agencies to cope with and mitigate flood effects, in line with its ESG and social responsibility goals.

Academics Back Govt Spokesman’s Probe Into 2017 Tobacco Tax Loss

Academics are backing a government spokesman’s call to investigate who is responsible for the 2017 tobacco tax reform that has cost Thailand about 20 billion baht in lost revenue each year. They say the shift to a two‑rate tax allowed multinational tobacco firms to undercut prices, hurting domestic tobacco revenue and increasing illicit cigarette sales. Health experts warned at the time that multiple rates would create loopholes, but the Excise Department proceeded without sufficient health input and has yet to adopt WHO recommendations for a single‑rate tax.
