A pork vendor from Nai Nai Am Market in Chanthaburi filed a complaint after being violently assaulted by teenage security guards working at the "Long Beach" concert near Laem Mae Phim Beach in Rayong's Kaeng District on July 12. According to the victim, he and his wife were enjoying the concert when he stopped to use an electronic cigarette in an area away from the performance stage. Investigators are currently gathering evidence from video footage and medical reports from Nai Nai Am Hospital to build a case. Police are preparing to summon the guards for questioning and will pursue legal action accordingly.

Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and Interior Minister say they are pursuing long-term solutions to prevent recurring public disasters following the recent deadly nightclub fire in central Bangkok that killed and injured hundreds of people.

Authorities have tasked relevant agencies with studying and updating zoning and licensing laws for entertainment venues to be more appropriate and modern, reviewing all aspects including social conditions, culture, traditions, and livelihoods. This includes regulations on operating hours, location, music, dancing, performances, licensing, and annual inspections.

The PM stressed that enforcement has been strict in the past, but repeated incidents occur because some people deliberately break the law. An investigation team has been appointed to oversee the case with discipline and transparency, dividing witness examination into six groups: owners and operators; staff; victims' families and survivors; forensic evidence and medical examiners; rescue and firefighting personnel; and government officials and local authorities such as district offices and the electrical authority to verify legal and infrastructure compliance.

Police warn that if evidence of structural modifications, locked or blocked fire exits is found, additional charges beyond negligence will be pursued.

Beyond this nightclub tragedy, Thailand has experienced multiple major disasters in recent years causing significant loss of life: a nightclub fire in Bangkok in 2009, a pub fire in Satthahip, Chon Buri in 2022, a construction crane collapse onto a high-speed train in Nakhon Ratchasima in January 2025, and a train collision with a bus at a Bangkok crossing in May 2025.

Beyond immediate losses, such disasters risk damaging national confidence and tourism, reflecting poor standards across multiple sectors in Thailand. This latest tragedy signals that government and all stakeholders must now cooperate seriously to prevent public disasters from recurring.

BANGKOK — 14 July 2026, Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul on Tuesday dismissed calls for his resignation as interior minister following the deadly fire at Na Ladprao Brewery, saying the question was unprofessional while pledging to review entertainment venue zoning laws and tighten enforcement against businesses that violate regulations.

Speaking at Government House, Anutin said authorities would study whether existing zoning rules for entertainment venues in Bangkok remain appropriate and whether amendments to related laws are needed.

He noted that zoning in the capital falls under the jurisdiction of the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) and the police, adding that current regulations permit designated entertainment zones only in Khao San Road and RCA.

Outside those areas, venues are generally required to close by midnight and are subject to restrictions on live entertainment.

Anutin questioned several existing legal provisions, saying some regulations governing live music and dancing no longer reflect modern society.

"I'm a musician myself, and I still don't understand why live music has to stop at midnight," he said, adding that musicians should not be penalised by outdated laws.

He also said distance requirements from schools and temples should be reviewed, arguing that in Bangkok it is difficult to find locations that are not within two kilometres of either.

When asked whether he would resign following the fire, which has now claimed 30 lives, Anutin smiled before replying: "Next question."

"That question has no basis. It's intended to provoke emotion. It shouldn't be asked. Please be professional," he told reporters.

Responding to criticism that Thailand lacks strict oversight of entertainment venues, Anutin rejected the claim.

He said entertainment venue licences are inspected annually and that authorities routinely examine compliance with safety regulations.

"The recurring problem is that some people deliberately break the law in the hope of making more profit," he said.

"They take the risk, but it is not sustainable."

He warned that governors nationwide, including the Bangkok governor, had been instructed to intensify inspections of entertainment venues.

Anutin also criticised reports that an emergency exit at the fire-damaged venue had been secured with a double lock to prevent customers from leaving without paying.

"How can anyone accept that explanation?" he said.

He said the venue's owner, manager and operators would face legal action, while confirming that the establishment's entertainment licence had been revoked.

"That venue will never reopen as an entertainment business," Anutin said.

"They will have to find another profession because the licence has been revoked."

The study involved 76 participants aged 65-75 with normal cognitive function, who described images in their own words and completed executive function tests. AI then analyzed hundreds of speech characteristics and found that those who spoke fluently with fewer pauses generally demonstrated better brain function, even after accounting for age, gender, and education level.

Researchers identified four key factors the AI used in assessment: speech hesitations or pauses, use of filler words such as "um" and "uh," word-finding difficulties, and speech rhythm and continuity. All of these relate to the ability to control thoughts, working memory, and decision-making. If these abnormalities occur frequently, they may reflect declining brain function.

Dr. Jed Meltzer, senior scientist on the research team, stated: "Speech rhythm is not just a matter of communication style, but a highly sensitive indicator of brain health." He noted that analyzing speech patterns using AI could become a screening tool for dementia risk detection from the earliest stages, before symptoms become apparent. This would allow patients to receive care and treatment planning more quickly.

On July 14, 2025, Chumphon highway police officers led by Pol. S. Sarawut Kannsurang, Pol. S. Amornthep Inmimit, and Pol. S. Sitthi Chitratta were patrolling the southern Asia Highway at kilometer 20+200 in Wisai Nuea subdistrict, Mueang district, Chumphon province, when they spotted a blue-and-white tour bus staying in the right lane for a long distance before attempting to overtake their patrol vehicle. Officers signaled the bus to stop for a traffic violation check and found the driver, Kamhaeng, 43; Sitthichai, 36, a backup driver; and Eksitthi, 21, a bus attendant. During questioning, the driver appeared nervous and evasive, prompting officers to conduct a thorough vehicle search.

The search revealed 10 Myanmar nationals who had entered Thailand illegally—7 men and 3 women—mixed in with regular passengers without identification documents or valid tickets. All three crew members and the migrant workers were taken to Chumphon highway police station for further investigation.

Under interrogation, the three men confessed to being hired by an unknown Thai broker to transport the workers for a total fee of 12,000 baht, payable upon delivery. The bus had picked up the workers at two locations in Samut Sakhon and Samut Songkhram before heading to Surat Thani when intercepted. The driver, backup driver, and bus attendant face charges of knowingly harboring illegal aliens and obstruction of arrest. Police are investigating the identity of the labor broker and other individuals involved in the smuggling operation.
