Lampang Hospital Successfully Treats Pulmonary Embolism with CAVT
Lampang Provincial Hospital has become the first facility in northern Thailand to successfully treat a pulmonary embolism using Computer-Assisted Vacuum Thrombectomy. The procedure, performed by a multidisciplinary team, quickly removed a life‑threatening clot from a patient's pulmonary arteries. This advancement expands access to high‑level critical care for the region and may reduce the need for transfers to larger hospitals.
Lampang Provincial Hospital announced on October 16, 2069, that its medical team, led by Dr. Supawut Kantayanukul and supported by hospital director Dr. Rometh Wongwailarat, performed the first CAVT procedure for pulmonary embolism in the northern region. The technology uses a large-bore catheter connected to a computer-controlled vacuum system to extract clots directly from the pulmonary arteries while minimizing blood loss. A multidisciplinary team from interventional radiology, anesthesiology, cardiac catheterization, cardiothoracic surgery, neurosurgery, pulmonology, and cardiology collaborated to plan and execute the treatment safely and efficiently. The hospital says the new capability improves access to advanced critical‑care services for people in Lampang and the wider northern health network, reduces the need for patient transfers to higher‑level centers, and underscores its commitment to timely, high‑quality, and safe medical care.
