Lawyer Files Complaint Over Bar Host Wearing Barrister Robes
A lawyer filed a complaint after a nightclub performer in Nakhon Ratchasima wore barrister robes on stage, arguing the stunt violated laws against false representation and disrespected the legal profession.
A prominent lawyer, Saiyahut Phengbunchoo, has filed a complaint over a bar host wearing barrister robes at an entertainment venue in Nakhon Ratchasima city. The incident involved a popular nightclub hosting an event where a male performer was dressed in full barrister robes and presented on stage, drawing heavy criticism over the appropriateness of using the prestigious attire of the legal profession for entertainment.
On July 21, 2025, lawyer Saiyahut posted that he could not stand the situation and therefore took action. While some legal experts argued the act does not constitute a crime, Saiyahut contended it violates the Computer Crime Act Section 14(1) regarding false images, since the performer was not an actual lawyer. He characterized the action as a distortion that could cause public harm.
Saiyahut stated he does not want to see people wearing barrister robes in massage shops or other inappropriate venues, and therefore decided to pursue legal action to prevent such incidents.
