Lift Cable Failure Kills Female Worker in Bangkok
A cargo lift’s cable snapped in a Bangkok warehouse on October 10, killing a 49‑year‑old woman from Ubon Ratchathani and injuring a male coworker who suffered a broken leg. Police and forensic teams examined the scene, confirming the lift’s upper cable had broken. The victim’s body was sent for autopsy, while the injured man was taken to hospital.
According to police, the incident occurred at a two‑story building housing a private freight company. The victim, Alon Anakea, 49, was wearing her work polo shirt and black trousers when the lift’s upper frame struck her head, severing it partially. Investigation of the lift showed the upper cable had frayed and broken. CCTV footage from the second floor showed a male employee rolling a cart of boxes into the lift; he entered first, while the woman assisted in pushing the cart. As she stepped halfway inside, the lifting cable snapped, causing the lift’s top edge to drop onto her head and her body to fall to the ground. The injured male worker was rescued and sent to Hua Chiew Hospital, while the woman’s body was handed to the Ruam Katanyu Foundation for transport to Chulalongkorn Hospital’s forensic unit for autopsy.
