Lightning Kills Teen Golfer; Parents Demand Accountability
A 15-year-old junior golfer died after a lightning strike during a tournament in Chachoengsao province on November 1. A parent who witnessed the event alleges officials failed to stop play despite severe lightning, and has shared a detailed timeline questioning the response. The victim's mother has vowed to pursue legal accountability.
A parent of one of the junior golfers posted a firsthand account of the lightning strike at a golf course in Bang Nam Priao district, Chachoengsao province, on November 1, 2026, which killed 15-year-old Eyya Eyawarin Pradab-nyat. The victim's mother, Icey Eyya Ivy Pradab-nyat, previously thanked supporters on Facebook and pledged to seek justice for her daughter.
Facebook user Titapa Aomme Sawasdiruksa, a parent present at the tournament, described the events. Around 3:45 p.m., she was waiting at the clubhouse with three other parents when lightning intensified. They questioned why officials hadn't halted play. One parent spotted children from their group walking to the 18th tee despite the danger. Attempts to wave them off failed. At 3:52 p.m., the mother tried calling her son's caddie to stop play but couldn't connect. From the second-floor tournament room, she saw a female official ask whether to stop, but the response shocked her — fearing no one would take responsibility if someone were struck.
Terrified, she screamed at a passing golf cart to retrieve the children from the 18th hole. The cart returned with three players and another parent. Her son, visibly shaken, brightened upon seeing his parents. She ran down to embrace him in tears. The other parent confirmed the lightning was terrifying. At 4:14 p.m., the mother checked the WeatherBug app, which showed lightning strikes near the course, and recorded the screen as evidence.
