Lightning Strike Buriram Beauty Salon, Five Escape Unhurt
A lightning strike hit a beauty salon in Buriram, damaging appliances and cracking the kitchen door. Five people, including the owner, her son, brother, husband, and a customer, escaped without injury. The owner credited their safety to personal merit and possibly wearing shoes during the strike.
On the evening of October 5, a lightning strike hit a two-story wooden house in Moo 14, Ban Nong Ta Yao, Lahansai District, Buriram, which operates as a beauty salon. The strike damaged multiple electrical appliances and caused the kitchen door to crack, with debris scattering inside. Fortunately, the owner, her 53-year-old self, her 18-year-old son who was brushing his teeth in the adjacent bathroom, her 45-year-old brother nearby, her husband upstairs, and a female customer waiting for her hair to dry all remained unharmed. The owner attributed their survival to personal merit, revered sacred objects such as a shrine to Sri Ariyamettrai, and possibly wearing shoes during the incident, though she acknowledged these were personal beliefs. She also recalled dreaming the night before that her saved money had disappeared, though she did not connect it to the lightning strike. After the event, electricity officials inspected the premises and preliminarily surmised that a power surge may have contributed to the damage. No injuries were reported, and the only losses were to property and equipment.
