At 02:30 a.m. on October 6, 2026, officers from Phanom Nikhom Police Station responded to a report of a shooting at a house in Ban Huathorn subdistrict. Upon arrival, they found Chat Chai, 37, with a gunshot wound to his foot; the bullet had passed through. First‑aid was administered before he was taken to Phanom Nikhom Hospital for further treatment. Investigators noted multiple bullet impacts on the house and on property outside. The pickup truck parked in front of the house was struck repeatedly, while the motorcycle suffered damage to its windshield. More than 40 spent casings of undetermined caliber were found strewn in front of the residence and collected as evidence.
The victim, identified only as Mr. Ake, said the attacker was his nephew‑in‑law, someone he knew well. Earlier, the nephew‑in‑law had tried to sell the victim’s wife’s motorcycle but was refused, leading to an argument. Later that night, the nephew‑in‑law returned with two pickup trucks and a sedan, opened fire on the house and the vehicles, then fled the scene.
Police have secured the site, gathered the casings and other evidence, are reviewing CCTV footage from routes the suspects likely used, and are interviewing witnesses to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.
