Lottery Winner Loses 26 Million Baht To Investment Scam
A 36-year-old woman lost 26 million baht to an investment scam after a woman befriended her lottery-winner mother in Sakon Nakhon and promised returns from a fake tomato farming business.
On July 8, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., a 36-year-old vendor filed a fraud complaint with the Central Investigation Police Division's suppression unit after losing over 26 million baht to a scam. The victim stated that the scheme began in early 2023 when a woman named Prapatsorn rented a house nearby in Sakon Nakhon province and befriended her mother after learning she was a former lottery winner who had received 90 million baht in 2013.
The mother had distributed 30 million baht to each of her two children. Prapatsorn then convinced the family to invest in a tomato farming and distribution business supplying major markets like Tai Market and Sai Muang Market, arranging factory visits to build credibility. Initially, the mother invested millions and received genuine weekly dividend payments of 20,000 baht, which encouraged the victim to invest additional millions. However, the payments eventually stopped, with Prapatsorn claiming business losses from fraud.
Calculations show total losses of 26 million baht, with only 1 million baht recovered. After realizing the deception, the victim filed a report at the local police station but came to the suppression unit to expedite the case, fearing delayed proceedings and suspecting multiple other victims exist.
"We are very distressed," the victim stated. "The lottery money was completely lost to this scam. We later learned other victims exist but are afraid to report it. We need help accelerating this case and don't want this to happen to anyone else."
Investigators accepted the complaint and are coordinating with local police to proceed with legal action.
