A rare banana plant at a Kamphaengphet temple has drawn crowds of lottery hopefuls after previous number drawings there reportedly matched winning tickets, prompting villagers to bring offerings and perform ceremonies seeking good fortune.
A rare banana plant at Ban Rai Kao temple in Kamphaengphet's Mueang district has become a hotspot for lottery enthusiasts after a previous drawing reportedly matched the numbers requested. On September 15, villagers brought offerings and dancers to perform ceremonies at the unusual plant, which has a distinctive leafy crown protruding from its stem. Some identify it as a cliff banana, a rare species found in deep forests and on cliff faces, sometimes kept as a decorative plant to bring good fortune and auspiciousness to homes.
After the September 1 lottery drawing produced the number 212 from incense drawn at the plant, word spread and many villagers rushed to make merit contributions to the temple. During a ceremony on September 15, one participant displayed unusual behavior while pouring water offerings, swaying and dancing in ways that onlookers interpreted as a spiritual presence responding to their prayers. Devotees brought various offerings, poured water on the ground, and lit two sets of incense to seek lottery luck, drawing the numbers 029 and 203, all from the same person performing the ritual.
