On September 20, 2026, at 10:14 a.m., Deputy Superintendent Nattakhet Chanapon of Ta Sae Police Station, Yala Province, received a report that Freight Train No. 985 (Bangkok–Sungai Golok route) had struck and killed a person on the Black Bridge connecting Ban Bado and Ban Thung Hrian, Moo 3, Yupa Subdistrict, Mueang Yala District. Investigation teams and relevant personnel were dispatched to the scene.
The victim was identified as Wae Bideng, 72 years old, with severe lacerations from the impact.
Investigation revealed the victim had been intellectually disabled from birth and lived with his family, cared for by his younger brother.
It is believed the victim was walking to a wedding at Ban Thung Hrian but took the railway bridge instead of the normal road, arriving at the exact moment the train passed, leaving him unable to dodge in time and resulting in the fatal accident.
Deputy Superintendent Nattakhet later stated that the family did not contest the cause of death, understanding it as an unavoidable accident. Officials will review security camera footage and interview the train driver to proceed with legal proceedings.
