Police in Sarakaew Town received reports of a fatal assault on the evening of September 12, 2025, at a shelter in Srakwhan subdistrict, Sarakaew district, Sarakaew province. Officers found the body of Jaran (surname withheld), 70, dead at the scene with severe head injuries consistent with being struck by a hard object. His jaw was broken and he had suffered significant blood loss. The suspect, Nipan (surname withheld), 40, the victim's son, was taken into custody for questioning at Sarakaew Town Police Station.
According to witness statements, the incident began around 10:00 a.m. when Jaran and Nipan were drinking together at home. An argument erupted, prompting Jaran to walk out toward a shelter about 200 meters away. Nipan followed him, and the fatal assault occurred at the shelter. Officers found broken bottles at the residence and broken tile fragments inside the shelter, which may have been used as the murder weapon.
Neighbors revealed that Nipan regularly drinks and becomes violent when intoxicated, frequently attacking his father. Previous attempts by villagers to intervene were rebuffed by Jaran, who insisted his son had not harmed him. On the day of the incident, neighbors saw Nipan entering and leaving the shelter, then going to buy alcohol before returning to the shelter again, which aroused their suspicions. Upon investigation, they discovered Jaran was already dead.
Residents noted that Jaran received an elderly person's stipend while Nipan received a disability payment, typically disbursed around the 10th of each month. Previous disputes had erupted over Nipan using the money to buy alcohol. Last month, Nipan had allegedly attacked his father with a wooden object nearly fatally.
Police are continuing to interrogate the suspect and witnesses, gathering evidence at the scene, and conducting drug testing on Nipan to support the legal case.
