Man's Face Swells From Cavity and Toothpick, Attacked Online as AI Hoax
A man's severe facial swelling caused by tooth decay and repeated toothpick use prompted him to seek online help, but commenters accused him of faking the image with AI, leaving him devastated and suicidal.
A man suffering severe facial swelling on one side caused by a decayed tooth and repeated toothpick use sought help online, only to be accused by internet users of using AI to fake the image. Desperate and hurt by the criticism, he warned that if anyone visits him next time, they may not find him alive.
On August 9, Meth, a local aid worker, posted on Facebook after helping a man whose face was visibly swollen on one side due to tooth decay and toothpick damage. He quoted the man as saying: "Toothpick and decayed tooth—it hurts terribly, brother. I don't know how much longer I can survive. If you come looking for me next time, you may not find me anymore." He posted the photo asking for help, but online commenters attacked him for allegedly editing the image and using AI to deceive, leaving him confused about what to do.
Poo, 31, lives in a small room with his partner in a province. What started as a simple cavity became serious when food particles lodged in the decay, prompting him to repeatedly use a toothpick to dig them out. This led to severe inflammation and a large mass of infected tissue on the left side of his face. Meth initially provided him with some living expenses to help with immediate needs.
