Man Seeks Justice After Wife, Unborn Child Die During Labor
A man from Mae Hong Son is demanding an investigation after his wife and unborn child died during labor at a Pathum Thani hospital on September 1, following a delayed emergency transfer that ended in cardiac arrest.
On September 4, at the Paveena Hongskul Foundation for Children and Women in Khlong Chet subdistrict, Thanyaburi district, Pathum Thani province, a 28-year-old man from Mae Hong Son, identified as Mr. K., demanded justice from Paveena Hongskul during the funeral of his wife and unborn child, who died during childbirth. He explained that his wife's due date was September 1, and the hospital had scheduled an induction for August 31. At 4 p.m., doctors performed an ultrasound and found the baby healthy, weighing about 3 kilograms. After attempting to induce labor without cervical dilation, she was sent home. Around 1 a.m. on September 1, his wife developed back spasms, abdominal pain, and vomiting. He rushed her to the hospital, where doctors found the cervix dilated only 2 centimeters and determined a cesarean section was necessary. However, the hospital lacked a surgical team and equipment, so she needed transfer to Mae Hong Son city hospital. By morning, she was struggling to breathe and was placed on oxygen.
At approximately 10 a.m. on September 1, the hospital transferred her to Mae Hong Son city hospital, a 2-hour journey. About 10 minutes into the ambulance ride, his wife went into shock. The ambulance was forced to turn back to the original hospital, where she was rushed to the emergency room for cardiac resuscitation, but doctors could not save her life. His wife and unborn child died at 11:40 a.m.
He questioned the cause of death and whether the emergency transfer was delayed, and asked the Paveena Hongskul Foundation to investigate and ensure justice. The hospital released a statement yesterday regarding the deaths. He has already filed a report with Khun Yuam Police Station and has since brought his wife and child's remains home for funeral rites according to religious custom, but remains troubled by the circumstances. Paveena Hongskul expressed deep condolences to the family and pledged to coordinate with the Mae Hong Son Provincial Health Office to investigate the emergency transfer case and provide justice to the grieving family, while also mobilizing assistance and closely monitoring developments.
