Man Struck by Train Dies Despite Warning Whistle
A 49-year-old man was struck and killed by the Utrawithi Express train near his home in Lampang province despite the driver sounding a warning whistle, with police finding evidence of intoxication at the scene.
A 49-year-old man named Patvat was struck and killed by the Utrawithi Express train traveling from Nakhon Ping station to Bangkok's central terminal near his home in Tambol Bo Hae, Mueang district, Lampang province on July 10, 2025.
Sarin Chantraphirom, assistant conductor of Lampang locomotive depot, stated that police from Mueang Lampang station are investigating the incident. He noted that the area had tall grass and was very dark at night, making it unclear how the victim came to be on the railway tracks. The train operator had sounded a warning whistle, but the man failed to move, resulting in the collision and his death.
Deputy Superintendent Kittichad Thapana and inspection officers from Mueang Lampang police station investigated the scene and found a bottle of clear liquor, a shoulder bag containing a lighter and aluminum foil resembling drug paraphernalia, and a glasses case, which were collected as evidence.
The express train departed Nakhon Ping station at 6:20 p.m. and arrived at Lampang Railway Station at 8:21 p.m., departing again at 8:24 p.m. When approaching the incident location before the railway crossing, the driver sounded the warning whistle, but Patvat did not evade and was struck and killed. Initial findings suggest the victim was intoxicated, with the exact cause of death still under investigation.
