Meteorological Agency Warns of Six Days of Heavy Rain
Thailand's Meteorological Department warns of six days of heavy to very heavy rain through September 13, with a developing tropical storm expected to intensify flash flooding risks across northern, central, and southern regions.
The Thai Meteorological Department issued its fourth severe weather alert on September 8, 2025, forecasting very heavy rainfall across Thailand through September 13. From September 8-9, heavy to very heavy rain is expected particularly in the northern, northeastern, central, and eastern regions due to a high-pressure system and cool air mass from southern China pushing a monsoon trough southward, combined with moderate southwest monsoon winds over the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Thailand.
From September 10-13, the lower northeastern region, central Thailand, Bangkok and vicinity, eastern region, and southern region will experience continued rainfall with heavy to very heavy conditions in some areas. The northern and upper northeastern regions will see decreasing rainfall as the cool air mass spreads, shifting the monsoon trough to lower central and northeastern areas and the east. A low-pressure system over the central South China Sea is expected to intensify into a tropical storm during September 11-13.
The department warns residents in upper Thailand and the lower southern region to be alert for hazards from heavy rainfall accumulation that may cause sudden flash floods and flash floods. Residents should avoid areas prone to repeated flooding, especially low-lying areas where water may accumulate briefly. Affected provinces on September 8 include: Northern region—Phitsanulok and Phetchabun; Northeastern region—Chaiyaphum, Khon Kaen, Maha Sarakham, Mukdahan, Roi Et, Yasothon, Amnat Charoen, and Ubon Ratchathani. Heavy rainfall expected in the northern region includes Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Phayao, Nan, Sukhothai, Uttaradit, Tak, Kamphaeng Phet, and Phichit; northeastern includes Loei, Nong Khai, Bueng Kan, Nong Bua Lamphu, Udon Thani, Sakon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom, Kalasin, Nakhon Ratchasima, Buriram, Surin, and Si Sa Ket; central includes Nakhon Sawan, Uthai Thani, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, Lopburi, Saraburi, Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi, Nakhon Pathom, Samut Songkhram, and Samut Sakhon, plus Bangkok and vicinity; eastern includes Nakhon Nayok, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Sa Kaeo, Chanthaburi, and Trat; southern includes Ranong and Phang Nga.
