Thailand Braces for Heavy Rains Through September 7
Thailand's Meteorological Department warns of severe to very heavy rainfall across 46 provinces through September 7, with risks of flash flooding in low-lying areas and near waterways, particularly in the North and Northeast regions.
On September 4, 2025, the Thai Meteorological Department issued Warning No. 5 (185/2025) regarding severe to very heavy rainfall in upper Thailand, with impacts lasting until September 7. During September 4-7, heavy rains are expected particularly in the North and Northeast regions, caused by a monsoon trough passing over these areas combined with moderate southwest winds across the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand.
Residents in affected areas should be cautious of severe rainfall and accumulated rain that may cause flash flooding and flash floods, especially in the Mekong River basin, foothills near waterways, and low-lying areas. Travelers should avoid repeatedly flooded routes, particularly in low-lying areas prone to short-term flooding.
The Meteorological Department has identified 46 provinces experiencing heavy rainfall. A separate depression system that originated as Typhoon Sodel over China's Guangdong province has weakened to a strong low-pressure zone.
