Minister Pattana Monitors Plague In Russia Says No Thailand Risk
Health Minister Pattana Promphat said his office is coordinating with the Transport and Foreign ministries to closely monitor plague developments in Russia. He stressed that, while the disease is serious, there are currently no indications that it or infected individuals have entered Thailand. Monitoring continues, but no special screening measures are in place at this time.
Health Minister Pattana Promphat told reporters at Government House that his ministry is working with the Department of Disease Control to keep a close watch on plague cases in Russia. He said the Department has asked the Transport Ministry to monitor the situation jointly, and he has already informed the Foreign Ministry. When asked whether travelers from Russia need special screening, he said data are still being exchanged, noting that Russian authorities have already placed about 100 people under observation. He added that, as of now, there is no sign of the disease reaching Thailand, so no extra measures such as airport screening are required, though monitoring continues.
