Moo Deng is now an aunt! Natural Resources and Environment Minister Sutthichai Chomkluen shared the good news from Khao Kheow Open Zoo in Chonburi, which welcomed a new member — a baby pygmy hippo born on November 4, 2026. The parents are Moo Manao, aged 14, and Moo Tun, aged 7, who is Moo Deng's older brother, making the calf Moo Deng's niece or nephew. The news has sparked excitement and smiles among Moo Deng's fan club and animal lovers across the country.

Minister Sutthichai said he received a report from Khao Kheow Zoo Director Narongwit Chotchoi that following the birth, the veterinary team closely monitored the health of both mother and calf. Both are in strong condition. The calf has begun moving around and exploring the area, with mother Moo Manao staying close by to supervise. They have now been allowed to remain together normally.

However, Moo Manao continues to display protective behavior, keeping a vigilant watch and not allowing keepers to approach too closely — a heartwarming reflection of maternal instinct and the close bond with her offspring.

Khao Kheow Open Zoo is preparing to debut the new arrival to the public and fans soon, marking another piece of good news for the pygmy hippo family that has elevated Moo Deng to aunt status.

Moo Tun and Moo Manao held their wedding ceremony on January 24, 2025, with Princess Ubolratana Rajakanya Sirivadhana Barnavadi joining the procession as the senior groom's relative and signing as a witness on the marriage certificate between Miss Moo Manao and Mr. Moo Tun, the pygmy hippos of Khao Kheow Open Zoo.

Democrat MP Denies Solar Price Hike Claims, Criticizes Regulations

Democrat MP Tritrat Sirichanthorophas denied claims he sought higher solar prices for contractors, telling Parliament his talks with Deputy Interior Minister Phlaphir Suwanchawi actually targeted costly regulations like seven-year maintenance and insurance rules. He warned these requirements push up prices while a 140,000 baht sales cap forces installers to cut quality, and urged the Electricity Authority to stop competing with private solar firms.

Global Food Stockpiling Fuels Thailand Export Hopes for Year-End

The Federation of Thai Industries expects a year-end export boost as global household food stockpiling and seasonal demand from cold-climate countries increase orders for Thai shelf-stable foods. In the first nine months of 2026, Thailand exported 1.28 trillion baht of agricultural and processed food products. The FTI urges exporters to focus on product adaptation, safety standards, and value-added innovation rather than simply expanding capacity for short-term demand.

Former Chiang Mai University professor Arthit Sathianurak has accused House Speaker Sophon Saran of seriously violating democratic political ethics by obstructing accountability mechanisms. Thai Outbound Tourism Growth Slows to 3% Amid Rising Costs

Thai outbound tourism growth slowed to just 3% in 2026, reaching 13.45 million trips, down from 12% growth the previous year. Rising travel costs, taxes, and fees — adding 3.5–9.5% per trip — combined with weaker purchasing power are causing middle-income and incentive travelers to cut back. China became the top destination after visa-free entry took effect, with visits surging over 1,200% to 3.06 million in 2025.

Thailand GDP Forecast Raised to 2.6% After MPI Revision

Thailand's 2026 GDP growth forecast has been revised upward to 2.6% from 2.3% following a major overhaul of the Manufacturing Production Index by the Office of Industrial Economics. The new methodology, which includes broader factory coverage and a chain-linked calculation, shows manufacturing grew 2.4% in the first seven months instead of contracting. However, researchers warn the gains may not fully translate to GDP or labor income due to high import reliance and a low labor share in the booming electronics sector.
