Motorbike Taxi Driver Finds Fortune in Old Silver Box and Gold Bracelet
A motorcycle taxi driver sold a silver box and gold bracelet purchased for 150 baht at a secondhand market for over 104,000 baht after testing at a local gold shop in Krabi.
A lucky motorcycle taxi driver struck gold—or rather, silver and gold—after purchasing an old silver box and gold bracelet at a secondhand market for just 150 baht total. On September 13, 2025, Chokcherd Duangngern, 45, brought the items to Dragon Gold Smelting shop in front of Ratankosin 200 Years housing estate, accompanied by his girlfriend. Staff member Sirisak Butchai and the shop's goldsmith tested both pieces using a standard German precision analyzer.
The silver box weighed 156.88 grams and was valued at 9,844 baht, while the gold bracelet weighed 24.30 grams and was valued at 94,881 baht. Combined, Chokcherd received 104,725 baht. He explained that before this lucky find, his motorcycle had been stolen from his home. He borrowed his mother's old motorbike, drove it to the secondhand market, and discovered these treasures. Chokcherd now carries a magnifying glass when hunting for secondhand goods and has already found other valuable items, including an old pen marked "13k" that he purchased for 10 baht and later sold for over 1,000 baht. Sirisak noted that Chokcherd visits regularly with rings, chains, and silver items he finds at flea markets, and emphasizes the importance of thorough testing with precision equipment, as items can look fake to the naked eye but prove authentic under analysis.
