Grandmother Shocked to Find 50-Year-Old Gold Dust Worth Over 500,000 Baht
A grandmother from Nan Province's 50-year collection of gold dust, accumulated through trading with Laotian merchants, turned out to be worth over 500,000 baht when her granddaughter had it tested and melted into bars.
On September 9, the Facebook page Namo Gold Shop posted a video of a female customer bringing in various material scraps for testing. The two substances were stored in plastic bags, appearing as granules and powder in gold and copper tones. Upon examination, the reddish material was confirmed to be pure copper ore, while the gold-colored material in substantial quantity was identified as genuine gold.
According to the customer, the materials were given to her by her 90-year-old grandmother from Nan Province, who told her, "Take these to your grandchildren, they have value." The grandmother had accumulated these two bags of materials over 50 years from her trading business with Laotian merchants.
After confirmation of the materials as genuine gold, the shop retained some as a keepsake and melted down the remainder into gold bars. The customer initially expected to sell the materials for around 100,000 baht, but after melting and weighing, the gold bar weighed 139.26 grams, valued at over 597,423 baht.
