Motorcyclist Ignores Warnings, Crashes Through Lowered Railway Barrier
A motorcyclist crashed through a lowered railway barrier at Bangkok's Makkasan intersection on August 10, ignoring warning signals and a flag officer's whistle despite an approaching train.
Another reckless motorcyclist ignored warning signals and drove through a lowered railway crossing barrier at the Makkasan intersection near the Airport Rail Link station on Asok-Din Daeng Road in Bangkok on August 10. This incident comes shortly after a May 16 tragedy in which a freight train collided with a bus in the same area, killing and injuring numerous people. Multiple parties have analyzed the causes, pointing to issues with the barriers, flag officers, traffic police, and railway staff managing the area.
A video has since surfaced showing a motorcyclist recklessly attempting to cross the railway barrier while a train was approaching. Despite the barrier descending and warning signals blaring, along with a flag officer repeatedly blowing his whistle, the rider refused to stop. The motorcyclist struck the lowered barrier, flipped over, and crashed. The rider was not wearing a helmet.
The videographer expressed frustration, saying: "Look at that. I don't know what to say. Warnings go off every day, the barrier comes down, they blow the whistle for ages and he won't stop. How will he be held accountable? And he's not even wearing a helmet."
