MRT Fire Caused by Wet Electrical Short Circuit
Moisture from heavy rain triggered an electrical short circuit that sparked a fire on MRT elevated tracks near Tao Poon Station in Bangkok, causing service closures and 60-minute delays between Bang Awl and Kamphaeng Phet stations.
An electrical short circuit caused fire to break out on the elevated MRT tracks near Tao Poon Station in front of a condominium on Prachaurat Road 2, Bang Sue District. The Radio Centre Rama 9 received the alert, and firefighters arrived to find flames on the track. They deployed thermal imaging cameras and smoke extraction equipment to the scene while evacuating all passengers. BTS/MRT Governor Karajet Udomdhammapakdee stated that preliminary findings point to moisture on the power supply rails being higher than normal due to ongoing rainfall, which triggered the electrical short circuit. However, a detailed investigation is still underway. Bangkok Expressway and Metro informed the public that due to electrical system disruptions, MRT service was closed between Bang Awl and Kamphaeng Phet stations, with delays of approximately 60 minutes at some stations.
