Myanmar anti-government forces, known as the PDF, conducted a drone strike operation against Myanmar military aircraft at Mandalay International Airport, resulting in damage to four fighter jets on September 11, 2025. On September 10, the PDF used FPV drones to attack military aircraft parked at Tong Oo airbase in Mandalay region, Myanmar, causing severe damage to two jets and minor damage to two others. On the morning of September 11, Myanmar International Airlines (MAI) announced a temporary suspension of services at the airport and redirected flights to Naypyidaw. Karen National Liberation Army leaders stated that Tong Oo airbase has been used to launch fighter jets attacking Karen people in Karen State since early 2025, causing numerous deaths and injuries, with severely wounded victims being treated at Khun Yuam District Hospital in Mae Hong Son Province. The PDF strike was coordinated with intelligence sharing between the PDF and Karen armed forces, as well as allied groups seeking to undermine confidence in the Myanmar military government, following previous attacks on the airbase using 12.75-millimeter rockets.
