Myanmar Worker Dies After High-Voltage Shock at Festival Site
In Hua Chon district of Chumphon Province, a 39‑year‑old Myanmar worker installing tents for a traditional boat‑race festival was electrocuted after touching a high‑voltage power line while on a metal scaffold. He died instantly, and rescue crews used a crane to retrieve his burned body. Police are investigating the incident and will pursue legal action while assisting the victim’s family.
The incident occurred at 10:00 a.m. on October 12, 2026, when the Hua Chon Buddhist Pratibhib Rescue Center in Chumphon Province received a report of a fatal electrocution on the road in front of the Hua Chon Municipal Office. They notified investigators from Hua Chon Police Station and rushed to the scene. There they found the victim’s body lodged on a metal scaffold, with burn marks over the skin. Rescue workers requested a crane truck to carefully lower the body. Identification documents showed the deceased was Mr. Tin Oo, a 39‑year‑old Myanmar national. Witnesses said he was an employee of the contractor, rushing to install tents along both sides of the road to prepare spaces for vendors to rent for the Hua Chon traditional boat race, monk parade, flag competition, and royal trophy event — the 183rd annual festival scheduled for October 22–31, 2026 at the Southern Competition Grounds on the Hua Chon River. The accident site lies near a high‑voltage power line carrying over 22,000 volts. It is believed that while working on the metal scaffold, the structure or equipment came too close to the line, causing electric current to flow through him and resulting in instantaneous electrocution. Police have assigned rescue personnel to send the body to Hua Chon Hospital for a detailed autopsy, and are gathering evidence and interviewing those involved, including the contractor, to proceed with legal action and provide assistance to the victim’s family.
