A mysterious spherical object discovered floating near Koh Mai Phai off the Krabi coast on November 1 is suspected to be space debris. Thailand's space agency GISTDA has retrieved the object for detailed engineering analysis at its Space Innovation Park in Chonburi to determine its origin. Authorities warn the public not to touch any similar objects, which may contain hazardous chemicals, and to report findings immediately.
A mysterious spherical object was found floating near Koh Mai Phai in Krabi, suspected to be space debris. GISTDA is urgently investigating. Authorities warn against touching or moving it as it may contain hazardous chemicals. On November 6, 2026, media reported that yesterday the Geo-Informatics and Space Technology Development Agency (GISTDA), through its Space Technology Research Center (S-TREC), deployed to Hat Noppharat Thara–Mu Ko Phi Phi National Park in Krabi to receive and inspect a suspicious object resembling space debris that had drifted ashore near the National Park Protection Unit 3 (Koh Mai Phai). The discovery was coordinated and reported on Sunday, November 1, 2026. During this deployment, Dr. Sittiporn Chainam, Director of S-TREC, met with Vice Admiral Somkiat Songswat, Deputy Commander of the Krabi Provincial Marine National Security Operations Center, and Mr. Warawit Jitrua, Assistant Chief of Hat Noppharat Thara–Mu Ko Phi Phi National Park, along with relevant officials from all three agencies to exchange information on the discovery, custody of the object, maritime surveillance and security data, technical data, and space object tracking information. Following the joint discussion, GISTDA transported the object for detailed engineering analysis at the Space Innovation Park in Chonburi to determine its origin and will announce results later. Meanwhile, if the public finds suspicious objects resembling space debris, they are strictly prohibited from touching or moving them due to potential hazardous chemicals. They should photograph the object, record its location, and notify authorities or GISTDA immediately. Credit: GISTDA, National Park Protection Unit 3 (Koh Mai Phai).
