Navy Denies Link to Boom Panadda Money Trail Case
The Royal Thai Navy has denied any connection between a senior officer and the financial investigation surrounding Boom Panadda Wongphudee. The confusion arose from a remark by the CIB commander during a joint press conference on an unrelated arms seizure in Trat, where his comment about "consideration for the Navy" was misinterpreted as relating to the Boom case. Both the Navy and the CIB commander have since clarified there is no link.
The Royal Thai Navy clarified that reports linking a senior naval officer to the financial trail of Boom Panadda Wongphudee, president of a charitable foundation, stemmed from a misunderstanding during a joint press conference with the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) commander on November 3. Navy spokesperson Lieutenant Commander Chanin Sriyaphai explained that the CIB commander's remark about "consideration" (greng jai) referred only to Navy personnel waiting for the joint briefing, not to the Boom Panadda case. The press conference concerned the seizure of ammunition and weapons in the Navy's Area 1 jurisdiction in Trat Province, where Navy officials appeared alongside the CIB commander. While preparing for the briefing, reporters asked the CIB commander about the Boom Panadda case, to which he responded briefly before stating "consideration for the Navy." The Navy emphasized this short phrase was misinterpreted; the CIB commander later clarified the case had no connection to the Navy.
