Navy Seals Intercept 100 Packets of Cannabis at Chanthaburi Border
Navy personnel seized 100 packets of cannabis at Thailand's Chanthaburi-Cambodia border after two suspects fled across Tacheen Canal in Khlong Yai district on September 3.
On September 3 at approximately 7 p.m., the Chanthaburi and Trat Border Protection Command deployed naval rangers to patrol the Thailand-Cambodia border along Tacheen Canal in Khlong Yai subdistrict, Pong Nam Ron district, Chanthaburi province. During the patrol, officers spotted two suspects carrying four bags toward the canal, apparently preparing to cross into Cambodia using a natural passage. When officials revealed themselves and moved to intercept, the two suspects abandoned the bags and fled across the canal to the Cambodian side.
Inspection of the four bags revealed 100 packets of dried cannabis wrapped in vacuum-sealed plastic—28 packets in the first bag, 25 in the second, 22 in the third, and 25 in the fourth. The seized cannabis is undergoing weight and detailed verification before being handed to investigators at Pong Nam Ron Police Station for legal proceedings and further investigation.
Royal Thai Navy spokesperson Paracha Ratanaiphanphan stated that despite the Navy's "100 percent border closure" policy in the area, smugglers continue attempting to exploit natural waterways. He emphasized that the operation reflects the military's commitment to patrolling and interdicting illegal activities across the entire border, not just at official checkpoints. "A 100 percent border closure means closing all loopholes for illegal activity," he said, adding that the Navy will continue coordinating with relevant agencies to intensify patrols and intercept all forms of lawbreaking along the frontier.
