Royal Thai Navy and Trat Police dismantled a cross-border arms smuggling operation at Lamae District port in Trat Province, seizing two AK-47 rifles, over 24,000 rounds of ammunition, and a speedboat used to transport weapons from Cambodia.
The Royal Thai Navy and Trat Provincial Police have dismantled a cross-border arms smuggling operation involving speedboats that transported weapons from Cambodia and transferred goods in mid-sea before docking at Lamae District port. Navy Spokesperson Paratsh Rattanaichaiphan announced on August 22 that the Navy and Trat Marine Police have been continuously pursuing illegal maritime trafficking operations. Following a suspected target discovery, authorities executed the arrest on August 21 at Direk Pier in Klong Yai Subdistrict, Lamae District, Trat Province. One male suspect was apprehended along with a large cache of weapons and ammunition, though other gang members fled during the commotion. Officers are continuing to pursue additional suspects.
Seized items included: 1. Two AK-47 rifles 2. 102 ammunition magazines for AK-47 rifles 3. 23,640 rounds of 7.62-millimeter ammunition 4. 765 rounds of 12.7-millimeter ammunition 5. One white and blue speedboat 6. Three vehicles linked to the offense 7. Total of 24,405 rounds of ammunition
Initial investigation revealed the operation used speedboats to receive shipments from foreign nationals in mid-sea. The weapons originated from Cambodia before being transported to Lamae District port. The suspect and all seized items were transferred to Lamae Police Station for legal proceedings.
