Car Slams Into Trailer; Driver Critically Injured

Nakhon Ratchasima: A sedan collided head-on with the rear of an 18-wheel trailer, leaving the driver critically injured and unconscious in the wreckage. Rescue workers performed emergency CPR to sustain the driver's life before transferring him to hospital. The crash is believed to have occurred on a dark stretch of road with poor visibility, causing the driver to misjudge the distance and brake too late.

On September 4, rescue teams from Sawang Metta Nakhon Ratchasima received a report of a sedan hitting the rear of a trailer on Highway 204 bypass near Nong Krathoem subdistrict in Muang district, Nakhon Ratchasima province. The accident scene showed an 18-wheel trailer parked in the roadway with minor damage to its rear, and a white Toyota Camry (registration: Ngl-995, Nakhon Ratchasima) with a severely crushed front end. The driver was found unconscious at the wheel.

Rescue workers quickly extracted the injured driver from the vehicle as smoke was billowing from the engine compartment. They sprayed fire suppressant to prevent a blaze and immediately began CPR, as the driver had a weak pulse and was in critical condition. The patient was then transported to Maharaj Nakhon Ratchasima Hospital for medical treatment. The driver was identified as Arkadech Phaophong, 43, from Ban Pur Yai subdistrict, Muang district, Nakhon Ratchasima.

Initial investigation suggests the crash occurred because the road was dark with poor visibility, limiting the driver's sight distance. The driver apparently misjudged the distance to the trailer ahead and failed to brake in time, resulting in a severe collision that left the car badly damaged. Police from Muang Nakhon Ratchasima station will examine the scene, review nearby CCTV footage, and question the driver further once he is able to give a statement, before proceeding with legal charges.
