Pickup Truck Slams into 22-Wheel Trailer at Red Light, One Dead
A pickup truck driver fell asleep at the wheel and crashed into a stationary 22-wheel trailer at a red light in Chanthaburi Province on September 11, killing one 22-year-old passenger and critically injuring another.
A pickup truck collided with the rear of a 22-wheel trailer while stopped at a red light intersection, leaving one person dead and one critically injured. The driver is suspected of having fallen asleep at the wheel.
September 11, 2026, at 7:15 a.m., Kluang Police Station in Chanthaburi Province received a report of the accident involving a white Toyota Revo cargo truck that struck the back of a 22-wheel trailer. Emergency teams from Kluang Hospital and Kluang Foundation rescue volunteers rushed to the scene to assist.
At the location, the pickup truck showed severe damage to its front end after striking the trailer, with the roof crushed down onto the driver's head and the windshield completely shattered.
Inside the vehicle, one injured person was found: a 21-year-old named Thitipol, who sustained a deformed left leg injury. Kluang Foundation rescue personnel provided initial first aid before transferring him to Kluang Hospital.
At the driver's seat, the body of a 22-year-old named Sumet was discovered trapped inside, showing shallow breathing before dying shortly afterward. Rescue workers had to use cutting equipment to extract the body from the wreckage, taking nearly 20 minutes.
Santi, 45, the truck driver, reported that he was traveling from Rayong to Trat. When he reached the accident location, he stopped for a red traffic signal. Less than half a minute later, he heard a loud crash from behind his truck. He opened his door to look and found the cargo pickup had struck his truck hard. He tried calling out to the people trapped inside, but only one person responded while the other remained silent. He immediately called police for assistance.
Officials initially suspect the pickup driver may have fallen asleep due to traveling long distance. The Kluang Foundation has been assigned to transport the deceased to Kluang Hospital for a detailed autopsy to determine the exact cause of death, before family members can be contacted to arrange religious ceremonies.
