Officials Warn 11 Bangkok Communities of River Embankment Seepage
Authorities have warned 11 communities along the Chao Phraya River in Bangkok to watch for possible water seepage as river levels rise. They have increased the opening of drainage gates on the southern two canals by 10 centimeters to a total of 80 centimeters to divert extra water from Pathum Thani. Officials continue to monitor the situation and urge residents to report any seepage via hotline 1555 or Line @TraffyFondue.
Officials also announced that the drainage gates of the southern two canals have been increased by another 10 centimeters, making the total opening 80 centimeters to better capture and divert water from the lower Lat Yao Canal in Pathum Thani into Bangkok’s drainage system. The water will flow through Khlong Sam into Khlong Lat Phrao, then to the Rama 9 water intake before being pumped out into the Chao Phraya River via the Phra Khanong pumping stations and drainage tunnels. These measures follow discussions with the Irrigation Department and the National Water Resources Office to manage and expedite runoff from Pathum Thani. Authorities continue to monitor water levels closely and will adjust gate operations and pumping stations as needed to reduce impacts on residents in Bangkok and adjacent areas. Residents are urged to report any signs of seepage or request assistance by calling 1555 or messaging the Line account @TraffyFondue.
