Opposition Deputy Criticizes Parliament Speaker's Unprofessional Conduct

Rangsiman Rom, a Pheu Thai list MP and deputy party leader, criticized Mallika Jiraphanthawanich, the first deputy speaker, for unprofessional conduct in parliament. Speaking at the House of Representatives on September 4, 2025, at 11:20 a.m., Rom expressed concern that breaking prior agreements undermines trust and credibility among legislators.
Rom argued that the government has not genuinely prioritized southern border issues, as evidenced by delays in parliamentary proceedings. He noted that yesterday's session could have addressed two agreed-upon matters if opposition members had not attempted to obstruct proceedings, including discussions of an Election Commission report.
Regarding his personal relationship with Mallika, Rom stated that parliament should operate as a professional workplace. He criticized her informal approach, including calling coalition party leaders by nicknames and treating the chamber like a casual social gathering rather than a formal legislative body. Rom specifically cited instances when Mallika muted microphones inconsistently between coalition and opposition members, demonstrating unprofessional double standards. He urged Mallika to improve her conduct and maintain consistent, professional standards befitting her position, noting that as a veteran legislator she should understand what professional parliamentary work looks like.
