Panel Taps Academic for Peace Board; Court Case Review Delayed
Academic Yutthaporn Israchay has been appointed to Thailand's Peace and Reconciliation Board, while a parliamentary committee continues gathering information before deciding whether to petition the Supreme Court over a dismissed corruption
House Speaker Sophon Saram confirmed on September 11, 2569, that Yutthaporn Israchay, a political scientist at Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University, has been appointed to the Peace and Reconciliation Board under the Peace and Reconciliation Promotion Act. He said other government agencies have not yet submitted their board member nominations.
Regarding progress on sending a petition to the Supreme Court for an independent inquiry into the National Anti-Corruption Commission's dismissal of the case against former Transport Minister Saksayam Chidchob over alleged stock manipulation, Sophon said the committee is currently gathering information. He stated that the committee has written to various agencies, including those involved in filing and defending the petition, and that he only learned of this because parliamentary notification was required. He declined to provide further details.
When asked when the petition would be submitted to the Supreme Court, Sophon said the committee must first review all responses and will base its decision on evidence gathered. The committee meets weekly, though he said he does not oversee the detailed deliberations and cannot predict when a final conclusion will be reached.
