Pathum Thani Official Launches Free Funeral Service for Poor Families

On September 24th at Pathum Thani Hospital, Deputy Police Lieutenant Colonel Kamranvithai Thukkrachang, leader of the Pathum Thani Provincial Administrative Organization, personally assisted a grieving family unable to afford funeral arrangements for a 76-year-old man who died of old age. The widow, aged 53, expressed her relief and gratitude, explaining she had no money for a coffin, transport costs, or funeral expenses, with substantial debts and insufficient farmland to support her children's education. Thukkrachang explained the Bridge of Merit project originated in Nakhon Ratchasima, using donated vehicles to transport the deceased from hospitals to temples free of charge. The foundation accepts donated coffins and handles all arrangements, including inviting monks, at no cost, with three staff members ensuring proper ceremonial conduct. Though the official launch was scheduled for October 1st, Thukkrachang decided to begin immediately upon learning of the family's distress, emphasizing that the bereaved should not face financial exploitation during their grief. He noted that funeral transport services sometimes charge excessive fees and felt this was exploitative. The Mongkhon-Jongkol Thukkrachang Foundation will provide free services throughout Pathum Thani province. Thukkrachang mentioned the project cost nearly one million baht for two electric vehicles and vans, funded through donations, with plans to expand across the province.
