Pattani Decoded Festival Celebrates City Through Rivers and Culture

The Creative Economy Promotion Office for Southern Thailand, in partnership with Pattani Province, Pattani City Municipality, creative networks, and local communities, is organizing the Pattani Decoded 2026 festival, a creative celebration centered on the concept of "Riversation"—opening a dialogue through rivers about the origins of people, history, culture, and the city's way of life.

The festival conveys these stories through design, art, architecture, and contemporary creative activities, aiming to elevate cultural capital into economic opportunity and create a new identity for Pattani as a creative city of the South that grows from local diversity and character.

Throughout the festival, the historic downtown, Sabaring community, Jabangtikok community, and creative spaces across the city will transform into areas of learning and experience exchange, offering new perspectives on Pattani. Using rivers as the starting point for telling the city's story—spanning history, trade, travel, cultural diversity, and daily life—these narratives will be reinterpreted through the work of artists, designers, architects, and creators from various fields, creating an experience that connects the city's past, present, and future.

This year's festival introduces the "Riversation" concept, inviting participants to decode the city through rivers in three dimensions: Root (exploring the city's origins and history), Resource (discovering the value of resources, culture, and local wisdom), and Resilient (envisioning Pattani as a city prepared to adapt to environmental, economic, and social change). Art and design serve as a common language to create new dialogue between people and place.

The festival atmosphere will be filled with activities offering learning and participation opportunities through exhibitions, design, contemporary art, forums, workshops, and experiential activities distributed throughout the city. A Riversation exhibition will present the relationships between people, the city, and the Pattani River across historical, environmental, and future dimensions.

Also featured is the SASTERA-Waterfront Book Festival 2026, the province's first waterfront book festival, opening space for reading, literature, and knowledge as part of urban development through exhibitions, forums, book launches, and knowledge-exchange activities between writers, academics, and creators from Thailand and abroad.

The festival will also showcase the Pattani Fishermen Community Hub by HAS Design and Research, reflecting public-space design principles for fishing communities, alongside works by contemporary artists and designers including M Sofian, Benjameth, SarnSard, Stu do vol. Records, and Studio Act of Kindness, sharing stories of history, environment, memory, and Pattani's cultural diversity through art and design language.

Walking tours, boat trips, city exploration runs, traditional fishing activities, and events in historically significant areas will offer new experiences of learning the city through its people, way of life, and landscape. A Creative Market will provide a platform for local entrepreneurs to present products, crafts, food, and creative goods reflecting Pattani's identity.

Concurrently, Pattani Province is organizing the Kenduri Seni Tolong Menolong 2026 International Art Festival with support from the Creative Economy Promotion Office for Southern Thailand.
