Phuket Floods After Brief Heavy Rain Warning Until Oct 13
Phuket saw sudden flooding in several districts after less than an hour of heavy rain on October 9, 2025. Authorities have issued a heavy rain warning effective through October 13, urging caution and preparedness for possible flash floods and landslides. Rescue teams and equipment are on standby to assist residents around the clock.
On the morning of October 9, reporters said brief but intense rain caused water to pool in parts of Phuket, despite lasting under an hour. Impacted locations were Ranong Road in front of the Jui Tui Tao Bo Geng shrine—where a vegetarian food street fair was held as part of the Phuket Vegetarian Festival—Bangkok Road, the Dawn area, and East Chao Fa Road. The flooding occurred amid a provincial warning for heavy to very heavy rain from October 9 to 13, with the Phuket disaster prevention center readying response teams and urging agencies to monitor weather and risk zones closely. Earlier, the Meteorological Department issued a notice on October 7 forecasting very heavy rain across Thailand, especially the south, due to monsoon troughs and southwest monsoon over the Andaman Sea, which could generate waves over two meters. Phuket province ordered district offices, local administrations, village heads, and community leaders to watch for flash floods, overflowing streams, standing water, and landslides, and to prepare rescue personnel, machinery, and equipment for 24‑hour operations. Residents were advised to follow official alerts, avoid flooded roads, and steer clear of risk areas during heavy rain to reduce accident and danger.
