Pickup Truck Carrying Fruit Crashes, 3M Methamphetamine Pills Found
A pickup truck carrying hidden methamphetamine pills flipped on a northern Thailand highway on September 21, revealing approximately 3 million tablets concealed in fruit crates; the driver was arrested with minor injuries.
On September 21, Deputy Colonel Somphop Suphaphon, superintendent of Wang Nuea Police Station, and his officers responded to a single-cab pickup truck with a cargo bed that had flipped on Highway 120 (Phayao-Wang Nuea-Chiang Rai route) in Wang Nuea District, Lamphun Province. At the scene, officers found the overturned truck and a male driver with minor injuries, who was placed in the custody of Highway Police Division officers. Inspection of the truck bed revealed 15 fruit crates, which upon examination contained a hidden stash of approximately 3 million methamphetamine pills. According to the investigation, Highway Police Division officers had been tracking the vehicle before it lost control and flipped, allowing them to apprehend the driver, who sustained minor injuries. The driver is currently being detained for questioning, and authorities are working to trace the source of the drugs and identify other individuals involved in the operation.
