PM Anutin Champions Food Security Hub as S&P Affirms BBB+
Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul opened the 69th National Defence College course, promoting Thailand as a global food production hub and regional logistics gateway. He highlighted S&P Global Ratings' decision to maintain Thailand's BBB+ credit rating with a positive outlook, citing government stability and investment inflows. Anutin urged a shift from state-dependent farming to a self-sufficient, industrial-scale agricultural sector.
At 9:00 AM on November 5, 2026, at the National Defence College in Bangkok, Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul presided over the opening of the 69th NDC course under the theme "The Role of the State, Private Sector, and Politics in Maintaining National Security."
The Prime Minister stated that all sectors — political officials, permanent civil servants, and security agencies — are working across every dimension of national security with dedication, creating a reliable level of stability.
Noting that the current NDC class includes the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, Anutin highlighted a recent crisis in Europe where freezer temperatures were raised to 100 degrees, causing massive food spoilage. He called it a heartbreaking example of global fragility but also a strategic opportunity for Thailand. "One thing we can hold our heads high about without doubt is that Thailand is a crucial global food production hub," he said. "We have a clear policy to demonstrate food security that will make the world take notice of Thailand."
"Others sell oil and we give it great importance, but you can't drink or eat oil. Without food, we cannot survive. This is where Thailand must build strength as a producer and processor — rice, fruits, vegetables, and livestock — operating as a full-fledged industry," the Prime Minister emphasized. He instructed the Agriculture Ministry Permanent Secretary to present supply-chain security issues to the NDC class, stressing that Thailand has the most farmers and it is time they stand on their own feet, earn their own income, and move beyond unsustainable government handouts.
Anutin added that both Moody's Ratings and S&P Global Ratings have kept Thailand at BBB+ with a positive outlook, upgraded from negative. This reflects confidence not only in Thailand's existing stability but also in governance stability, production capacity, social peace, and government credibility. As a result, large investment flows are entering the country, with investors recognizing Thailand's readiness and bringing advanced technology.
"We are the red egg at the center of the region — from ASEAN to southern China to South Asia," he said. "We can use this network as a central goods transportation and logistics hub for multinational corporations. In ASEAN, we have an attraction that forces them to pay attention to Thailand. They may not love Thailand, but they must use Thailand as a base to expand business at a scale calculators can't handle because the zeros are too many. Without a country or production base to expand capacity or business reach, they face disruption."
