PM Anutin Warns Myanmar Over Border Clashes, Deploys More Troops
PM Anutin warned Myanmar over cross-border artillery strikes, confirming Thailand delivered a formal protest and deployed extra troops to defend its territory while ordering forces to avoid direct confrontation.
On November 2, Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul addressed the media regarding opposition demands for an official statement on Myanmar following border fighting near Thailand. Anutin stated that both the military and diplomatic channels have already been engaged. Asked about daily artillery falls and security measures, he confirmed awareness and said Thailand has notified the Myanmar government to operate without affecting Thai soil. Last Saturday, the Supreme Commander and Foreign Minister Maris Sangiampongsa formally conveyed Thailand's concern to Myanmar, urging caution to avoid harming civilians, property, and homes uninvolved in the conflict of both nations. When pressed on Myanmar's response, Anutin said Thai officials had summoned the Myanmar embassy to receive the message, which has been delivered. On whether further security measures would be added if the situation persists, the Prime Minister affirmed Thailand is fully defending its territory, deploying additional patrol forces to boost readiness. He added that the Supreme Commander and military chiefs have been instructed to avoid confrontation and conflict as much as possible, since the fighting does not directly involve Thailand. However, Thailand has sustained some damage, prompting the warning to Myanmar.
